Numerology is an occult or spiritual practice that has been handed down / taught through the ages by mystics, spiritual channels, sages, and spiritual groups.
Numerology is as old as our ancient civilizations. Numbers are spoken of even in the ancient biblical literature and the Hindu mythological texts. As per the present records available, the history of numerology dates back to the Pythagoras period, which runs between 569 and 470 B.C. Pythagoras, a great sage, mathematician and philosopher of his times from Greece, had established a school in which he taught numerology too, among other subjects. According to Pythagoras, the world is built upon the power of numbers and the system of the numbers works on the broader concept that the entire universe is composed of mathematical patterns. It is said that “all things can be expressed in numbers which correspond to universal vibrations”.
The practice of numerology follows a certain set of principles obtained through deductions and additions of birth, month and year numbers, calculating the numerical values of the letters, vowels and consonants in a name and applying some more formulas based on these values.
The actual origins of numerology predate Pythagoras, the most popular being the very old Hebrew Kabbala. In the twentieth century, numerology seemed to magically reappear in the form of a series of books published from 1911-1917 by Mrs L. Dow Balliett and was helped along in the 1930s by Florence Campbell.
The common thread between all those who founded or re-awakened the practice of numerology is that they all were mystics, each connected to spiritual forces, or exposed to spiritual teachings from the “other side”. In essence, numerology is a teaching that has been passed from spirit to mystics, channels, and sages. This explains the occult or spiritual background of numerology and why numerologists cannot explain or bring evidence forth as to why it is so accurate.
